LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph men's soccer team faced off against Lynchburg in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday evening at Shellenberger Field. The Lynchburg defense held the WildCats to just one shot as the offense tallied three scores to come away with a 3-0 victory.
The Hornets move on to play Bridgewater next weekend in the semifinals. The WildCats conclude their season with a final record of 5-8-3.
It was a cold and at times damp evening as both teams battled on the field. The Hornets got their first goal at 16:37 to lead 1-0.
Lynchburg's second goal occurred in the 24th minute but the Randolph defense started to settle in and kept the Hornet attack off balance. Starting goalkeeper Austin Collier (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) came up with three saves to keep the score at 2-0 at intermission.
In the second half, Randolph had a pair of corner kicks but could not get a shot off. The WildCats held off the Hornet offensive as long as it could until Hussein Osman netted the final goal of the game in the 76th minute.
Collier finished with seven saves in net which was a season and career high. He was replaced by Zach Aylor who played the final 9:28 and did not register a save.
Shots were in Lynchburg's favor 24-1 and corner kicks 7-2.
