Watson Leads WildCats to 3-1 Senior Night Win Over Ferrum

Adam Watson scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season on Wednesday night.

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Randolph men's soccer hosted Ferrum on Senior Night at WildCat Stadium. Fittingly enough, it was senior Adam Watson (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) who led the WildCats to victory with a pair of goals as Randolph won by the score of 3-1.

The win clinches a berth for the WildCats in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Randolph will be the seventh seed.

The 'Cats got on the board within the first 10 minutes of the contest. Randolph was granted a corner kick and Eynnar Claros' (Falls Church, Va./Falls Church) boot found Gunnar Copeland (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) who headed the ball into the net for the score.

The Panthers got a pair of shots on frame in the last three and a half minutes but WildCat keeper Austin Collier (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) was there to pick up the saves. Randolph held its 1-0 lead at halftime.

The WildCats continued to keep the pressure on the Panthers early on in the second half with Watson registering two shots on goal. Ferrum, however, would be the one to answer as a direct kick led to the tying goal in the 59th minute.

Randolph would not back down and found itself back in the Panther zone. Gabe Krueger (Jacksonville, N.C./White Oak) sent a long pass to Watson from the far right side of the field where he brought it down and fired a shot into the goal to put the 'Cats ahead 2-1 in the 76th minute.

The WildCat defense was able to keep Ferrum without a shot for the remainder of the half. Watson tallied his 10th goal of the season with 1:15 left to play.

Collier got the start and stopped five shots in goal for a season-high. Panther goalkeeper Derek Thomas did not a record save before leaving with an injury. His replacement Marco Rivera had four saves.

Randolph led in total shots 13-7 and in shots on goal 7-6. Corner kicks were in the WildCats' favor 6-2. 22 fouls were called with both teams being assessed a pair of yellow cards.

The WildCats honored their four seniors: Claros, Collier, Brian Higgins (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), and Watson along with team manager Andrew Harman.

The WildCats will face a familiar foe in the ODAC Tournament in cross-city rival Lynchburg. The two teams last played each other two weeks ago at WildCat Stadium with the Hornets walking away with a 4-1 victory.

The WildCats and Hornets will play this Sunday at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field. Game time will be announced later this week.
