HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.- Randolph men's soccer traveled to Hampden-Sydney to take on the Tigers in a midweek Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. Hampden-Sydney scored just under a minute into the game and made it hold up as it won by the score of 1-0.
The WildCats drop to 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the ODAC. The Tigers improve to 5-4-1and 3-2 in the conference.
The 'Cats recorded 11 shots in total on the evening with four coming on frame. H-SC had seven shots and just one on goal. That came 59 seconds in when Hunter Weiland passed to Josh McCormack up the middle and he dribbled a shot inside the far left of the net and in for the score.
Randolph had its opportunities but a pair of shots by Adam Watson (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) were saved by Tiger goalkeeper Gray Sutter and back-to-back corner kicks did not produce the desired result. Watson led the WildCats with five shots overall and three on goal.
In the second half, Hampden-Sydney nearly took a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute but Weiland's shot hit the crossbar. The WildCats were held to just one shot on goal in the period, which was by Evan Blow (Charlottesville, Va./ Charlottesville) in the 71st minute.
Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) got the start in goal for the 'Cats and did not record a save. Sutter finished with four saves for the Tigers.
The WildCats next head to Bridgewater on Saturday to play the first place Eagles. Game time will be at 11:00 a.m.
