DANVILLE, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team added to its win column on Wednesday evening as the WildCats defeated host Averett University, 16-6.
Jordan Stanley (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) broke open the scoring gates early in the first quarter, finding the back of the goal off a feed from Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch). Stanley would then assist Pausic with his first goal of the game at the 10:15 mark to put the WildCats head, 2-0. As time ran down, Randolph managed to shut out the Cougars as Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) recorded back-to-back goals to lift the WildCats to a 4-0 advantage heading into the second period.
Averett was able to land on the scoreboard in the second quarter, eventually trimming the WildCats' deficit to 4-2 with 8:12 remaining on the clock but a goal by Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) at the 5:56 mark would seal Randolph's 5-2 lead at halftime.
Pausic added his second goal of the night early on in the third quarter with Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) and Jack Dolan (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) chipping in two goals apiece to increase the WildCats' margin to 10-4. Randolph maintained its momentum throughout the fourth quarter, outscoring Averett 6-2 with Pausic assisting three of the six goals, to capture the final 16-6 tally.
Although both teams drew even with 37 ground balls apiece, Randolph outshot the Cougars, 37-25 and won 16-of-25 face-offs while clearing 16-of-25 attempts.
Pausic dished out three goals and six assists for a total of nine points, which sets new program single-game record. Additionally, his six assists matches his career-high from last year's meeting with Averett while his 11 shots ties for seventh in the single-game record books. Tutko dished out two assists to go along with his three goals while firing off seven shots. Dolan was the third Randolph player to notch three goals in the win, recording six shots on goal.
Charles concluded the game with two goals of his own to go along with two assists while picking up eight ground balls and winning 12-of-15 face-offs. Piascik and Stanley also recorded two goals in the victory while Evan Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) added his first-ever collegiate goal.
Junior goalkeeper Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) earned the win the crease, facing 10 shots and making five stops. William Doyle (Lousiville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) also recorded time in goal for Randolph, making one save and facing two shots.
The WildCats improve to 3-4 and return to conference play on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to The University of Lynchburg for a 7 p.m. contest.
