FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Josh Yeast (Chesapeake, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored twice in the Randolph College men's lacrosse team's 18-3 defeat to host Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Monarchs had the only goal of the first quarter before firing off consecutive goals in the second quarter to extend their lead to 8-0 at halftime. Methodist continued to rack up the points as three more goals handed the Monarchs an 11-0 margin. However, the WildCats took advantage of being a man-up on the field as Kadri Hearns (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) notched Randolph's first goal of the game off of a feed from Shane Shifflett (Westminster, Md./Westminster).
Although Methodist responded with two back-to-back goals to up its advantage to 13-1, Yeast fired off his first goal of the afternoon after finding a pass from Andrew Webb to close the third quarter at 13-2.
The Monarchs kicked off the fourth quarter by firing off four goals to extend their lead to 17-2 before Yeast gave the WildCats one final goal at the 4:42 mark off of a pass from Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch). Methodist solidified the final 18-3 tally just a few minutes later.
Yeast and Hearns finished the game with four shots and three shots on goal apiece with Yeast adding three caused turnovers. Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) won 9-of-16 faceoffs and scooped up a team-high 12 ground balls.
Matt Lindenbaum (Reisterstown, Md./Reisterstown) took the loss in the crease, facing 17 shots and making six saves. James Stumpo (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) also made six stops for the WildCats, facing 12 shots, while Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) picked up some playing time in net for Randolph.
Randolph falls to 0-4 and is slated to open conference play on Saturday, March 10 when it hosts Roanoke College at 2 p.m.
