BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Men's lacrosse matched its program record for wins in a season after a hard-fought,9-8, double-overtime win.
At intermission, the game was level, 3-3, behind two goals from sophomore Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy) and a man-down goal from his classmate, Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Annandale).
The third period was all Bridgewater's, however, as the Eagles scored all three goals, and opened the fourth with another marker to grow a 7-3 edge.
Seniors Bobby Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) and Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) struck 32 seconds apart to halve the lead, followed by a strike from first-year Shane Soghomonian (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) and one from sophomore Corey Nehlig (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) leveled the game with 4:08 left.
Randolph earned the lead on a goal from first-year Ryan Campbell (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) with 1:23 left, but a man-up goal by Bridgewater equalized with just two seconds remaining.
In the first overtime, none of the three shots taken were on net, forcing a second extra session.
Out of a Bridgewater timeout, sophomore Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) made a huge save, which started a WildCat break.
After Randolph cleared the ball, Wood ended the game with a game winner with 2:52 remaining in the second overtime.
Randolph, who never had an overtime win before this year, now is 2-0 in extra time.
The WildCats now have five wins on the year, matching last year's squad for the program record for wins in a season.
On Wednesday, Randolph will take on Hampden-Sydney at 7 p.m. The game will be the team's "Purple Day" game for testicular cancer awareness.
