Strong First Half Leads Ferrum Past Men's Lacrosse
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Ferrum took an 8-2 edge into halftime and withstood a WildCat rally to earn its fourth straight win, 15-10.
After two quick Ferrum goals, Randolph held the Panthers scoreless for almost 13 minutes as first-year Scott Wilkinson (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) halved the lead off a pass from classmate Ryan Campbell (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest).
Ferrum scored the next three beforesophomore Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Annandale) ended the run.
Three more from Ferrum gave the Panthers an 8-2 edge at halftime.
Sophomore Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy) and Risse tallied the first two goals of the second half and, after another Ferrum tally, Wilkinson added his second.
With the lead down to just four, Ferrum scored five of the next six with just a marker by senior Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) near the end of the third.
Randolph scored three of the four goals in the final period, but couldn't clip the lead to a managable size.
Gleitz had the first and was followed by sophomore Corey Nehlig (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) and one from Campbell to wrap the scoring.
Randolph had the edge in ground balls and shots, winning 17 of the 28 faceoffs as well.
Senior John Grundy Jr. (Warrenton, Va./Battlefield) went 17-for-26 at the X and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls.
Randolph will next travel to Bryn Athyn on Saturday.
