Men's Lacrosse Valiant in Defeat Against Powerhouse Maroons

SALEM, Va. -- Against the nation's preseason No. 8 team, Randolph stuck with Roanoke for much of the evening, but fell, 16-7.

Randolph found itself in a hole early, conceding seven of the first eight goals of the game against Roanoke, a team that has won three of the last four ODAC titles.

The teams split the next 10 goals, however, to keep Randolph close. The Maroons found replies to each of Randolph's runs to keep the WildCats out of striking distance.

Three late Roanoke goals ended Randolph's chances, which were buoyed by goalkeeper Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance)

The sophomore set a personal best mark with 23 saves, the sixth-most ever by a Randolph goalkeeper.

Offensively, senior Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) had three goals and an assist for the WildCats, including a marker with just one tick left on the clock.

Sophomores Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy) and Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Annandale) joined first-years Mitch MacDonald (Midlothian, Va./Christchurch) and  Shane Soghomonian (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) were Randolph's other goal-scorers.

On Saturday, the WildCats will have a chance to even their ODAC record with a matchup at Shenandoah.
