LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team did not have to travel far for its game on Saturday as they went across town to the University of Lynchburg to compete in the Wayne Proffitt Classic. The WildCats took on #22 Christopher Newport and fell to the Captains by the final score of 82-48.
Randolph was neck and neck with the Captains in the opening minutes of the game. A layup from Smith with 16:06 remaining put the 'Cats up 6-5. CNU went ahead 7-6 on a pair of free throws by Jason Aigner.
The Captains' lead grew to 14-9 at the 12:24 mark. Brandon Schlick's (Virginia Beach, Va./Greenbrier Christian Academy) jumper cut the deficit to three points, 14-11, with 12:07 showing on the game clock. Christopher Newport would end up taking a 20-11 advantage and led36-22 at halftime.
The WildCats will face Mary Washington tomorrow afternoon. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
