LYNCHBURG, Va.- Visiting Randolph-Macon led from start to finish as it defeated the Randolph men's basketball team 78-51 on Saturday afternoon at the RAD Center. The win gives the Yellowjackets a record of 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC. The WildCats fall to 3-10 and 0-4 in the conference.
It was 5-3 RMC just over two minutes into the first half before the Yellowjackets embarked on a 11-2 run to go up 16-5 with 13:38 remaining in the half. Randolph was able to cut the deficit to six points with a pair of free throws from Ryan Fields (Edgewood, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and a three-point basket from Reid Jacoby (Richmond, Va./Benedictine).
Randolph-Macon's 9-0 run put it ahead 27-11 at the 7:43 mark but a n 8-0 run by the 'Cats got them to 27-19 at 4:47. The Yellowjackets countered with their own 8-0 run to end the half and go into the break ahead 39-21.
The Yellowjackets turned up their offense in the second half with six straight three-point shots to increase their lead to 57-33 at 14:43. It was a hole that Randolph could not climb out of as RMC would hold its position for the rest of the game.
Jacoby led the 'Cats with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. Elijah Ford (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) contributed seven points and four rebounds.
In his first action since November 21, Fields finished with seven points, five rebounds, and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench. Nick Goble (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) added six points and pulled down seven boards in 14 minutes.
Randolph heads on the road on Wednesday to play Guilford. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
