WildCats Receive Prestigious Academic Honor
LYNCHBURG, VA – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released the fifth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards on Wednesday, and the Randolph College men's basketball team was one of the teams to be honored.
The Team Academic Excellence Awards were created by the NABC Committee on Academics to honor outstanding academic achievement. Teams are honored for having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better during the entire 2016-2017 academic year. The 'Cats were one of 218 teams (out of over 1,200 teams spanning NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA) honored this year. Randolph was one of only two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) members to be named on the list.
"I'm extremely proud of the way our team has collectively bought into being well-rounded student-athletes," said head coach Pete Hamilton '11. "We ask a lot of the guys on the court; but, also expect achievement in areas away from basketball. Our players take pride in representing Randolph College the right way and academic success is a large part of that. To reach and maintain a team GPA above a 3.0 is an excellent standard for a college basketball program and we're proud to represent Randolph on the NABC Team Academic Excellence list."
The WildCats will begin the 2017-2018 season on November 15.
